Sleep Trackers Aren’t That Accurate

When you use a device that is meant to track your sleep, you want it to be accurate, right? Well, according to Men’s Health, the unfortunate truth is that a lot of the devices out there simply aren’t going to be able to monitor your actual sleep very well. That’s because they can’t monitor your brain’s activity throughout the night. Instead, they rely on things like the movement of your body and your heart rate to figure out when you are asleep, and what sleep state you’re in. These factors aren’t going to give accurate results because they might mistake your movements for wakefulness when you are actually asleep, as an example. Or, as another example, if you are truly relaxed while lying down, but awake, your sleep tracker might think you’re asleep when you aren’t.

Sleep Trackers Might Raise Your Anxiety Level

If you are the type of person who will obsessively use a sleep tracker to see how long, and how well, you are sleeping, you might end up going overboard and actually raising your anxiety level in the end. Don’t worry, though, you wouldn’t be the only person who does this. It turns out that a lot of people end up monitoring their data so closely that they start to feel anxious about getting better sleep, and about how they can achieve better sleep. The worst part of it all is that the data likely isn’t all that accurate, as we discussed above.

Just Focus on Getting Good Quality Sleep

Good quality sleep will help you maintain your overall health, and sleep trackers can be helpful tools in figuring out if you are getting a good amount of rest. But you need to keep in mind that they aren’t going to be 100% accurate, and you shouldn’t become obsessed with tracking your sleep either. Just focus on the many methods available to get better sleep, such as taking a product like Somnaprin, going to bed and waking up around the same time every day, avoiding caffeine, electronic devices, and alcohol shortly before your bedtime, and perhaps even listening to relaxing music, meditating, or stretching before bed.
