People use many different techniques to fall asleep. However, the most natural and relaxing method of falling asleep quickly is to do breathing exercises. Here are a few breathing exercises to fall asleep faster:
Breathing through Alternate Nostrils
This is one of the best exercises to try if you want to fall asleep faster. This breathing exercise will relax your nervous system. Moreover, it will restore the natural balance of both sides of your brain. For this exercise, you have to be seated on or near your bed. Make sure you sit cross-legged.
Once seated, place your left hand on your left thigh. You will only require your right hand for this exercise. Stretch your right hand and fold your index and middle finger inwards. You will be using your right hand ring finger to close your left nostril and your thumb for your right nostril. First take a deep breath, in and then out.
Then close the right nostril with the thumb and use the left nostril to inhale. You will inhale till the count of four. Once you inhale, close the left nostril as well with your right ring finger. Hold the breath for four counts, and then release the air through the right nostril. This should be done for four counts as well. You will repeat the same, but this time switch the order: inhale through the right nostril, and exhale through the left. You can repeat this exercise for as long as you like. This will help you to fall asleep faster.
Timed Breathing
This breathing exercise is rather simple and can be done in any position. If you wish, you can sit on your bed and perform it. If you are comfortable, you can lie down on your bed and perform this exercise. The preferred position for this if you are lying down is to be on your back. You will breathe in through both your nostrils while counting to three. Once you breathe in, you will begin breathing out. Only this time, you will not do it for a three count but, instead, to the count of six.
Similarly to other breathing exercises, there is no restriction on how many times you can repeat this process. If you are performing this exercise while lying in bed, you can perform it for as long as you wish. As soon as you begin to feel sleepy, you will drift off.
If you want to fall asleep quickly, be sure to try the abovementioned breathing exercises.
